RFID Systems and Solutions

Our RFID solutions can be custom tailored or provided as a turn-key implementation. Our expertise ranges from;

  RFID Label and Tag Selection

Choosing the proper tag for your application and environmental conditions is a complex task that requires expertise and knowledge of RFID physics and RFID tag sustainability.

 RFID Label and Tag Application

We can affix a variety of RFID tags to your equipment while performing a physical inventory. We will determine which tags to use on different asset types, where they should be affixed for best readability and lifespan, and the best method for application,

  RFID Hardware

Verasset is a certified, award winning supplier of fixed and mobile RFID hardware. We supply hardware from a variety of manufacturers including; rfidCollect, Zebra, Honeywell, Impinj, Alien, and more.

 RFID Software

Verasset provides RFID enabled asset tracking systems and integrates with legacy systems

  RFID Site Surveys

Verasset performs RFID site surveys and uses the results to formulate a detailed RFID implementation plan.

  RFID Installation

Verasset installs RFID hardware such as; readers, antennas, and portals. We do installations of all sizes and in many different environments.

RFID Site Survey

RFID Site Surveys

An RFID site survey is a physical survey of the premises where the use of RFID equipment is planned to be implemented. A survey identifies optimal locations for the physical installation of RFID readers and antennae.

When considering the use of RFID equipment, it can be difficult to predict the propagation of radio waves while detecting the presence of interfering signals without conducting a site survey. Regardless of the antennae technology, radio waves do not travel the same distance in all directions.

Walls, doors, infrastructure (metal, shafts, etc.), people, and other obstacles offer varying degrees of attenuation, which cause the radio frequency (RF) radiation pattern to be irregular and somewhat unpredictable.

As a result, an RFID site survey should be performed to understand fully the behavior of radio waves within a facility.

The goal of an RFID site survey is to gather enough information and data to determine the number and placement of RFID portals (readers and antennae) that will provide the coverage required, as well as to identify any necessary power and network connectivity points.

During the site survey, decisions can be made regarding mounting of fixed readers as well as optimum placement of antennae at controlled capture points. The need and complexity of an RFID site survey will vary depending on the size of the facility and the work that is to be accomplished. Afterwards, actual equipment is tested under similar conditions, and then finally a report is generated and submitted for approval prior to order and implementation stages.

RFID Basics

Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is the most automated and accurate means of tracking assets and inventory available today. The technology consists of two basic components- a tag that is applied to property that is being tracked, and a reader that is used to detect the tag when it is within range.

Fixed / Stationary RFID Readers

Stationary or Fixed Readers and antennas are strategically mounted throughout a facility and will detect RFID tags when they come within range. This is an automated means to track the movement of tagged assets throughout a facility.

When stationary readers are configured with a smart backend system, the benefits are limitless as you can alert personnel when items are improperly removed in real time, make use of underutilized equipment, locate assets when they are needed, etc.

Portable / Mobile RFID Readers

Portable or Mobile Reader is built into a mobile computer and can be used anywhere. Mobile readers are generally used to conduct physical inventory.

Taking inventory using RFID technology saves on time and manpower as tag detection is automated, many tags can be read at once, and it does not require direct line of sight.

RFID Tags

RFID Tags are made up of an electronic chip and an antenna. The chip receives a signal from a reader using its antenna, sends its unique ID back to the reader, which in turn communicates with some intelligent software and makes decisions based on predefined conditions.

Proper RFID tag selection and application plays an important role in RFID implementation. There are countless environmental conditions that can impact tag performance and readability.
